How to Shutdown a Hanging Laptop [WINDOWS 10]

Have you ever experienced a condition where your laptop hangs suddenly? Hang here can mean 2 things, first the screen is still on and the windows are still running but in a hang condition, the second screen is off and the windows are still running. In two conditions like this, sometimes we want the laptop to be shut down . With the hope that later after shutting down and restarting the laptop it can return to normal function. Then how do you make a laptop that hangs easily be shut down (turned off)? In the following we provide several ways and tips that hopefully will help to shutdown when the laptop hangs.

1. Combination ALT + F4 followed by pressing Enter (case study in a condition where the screen is off because it hangs)

For the first step, the condition when the laptop hangs + the monitor screen is off (off). Namely the condition when we can't see the laptop display, so it's very difficult to shut down the laptop. For that we can use other assistance (without looking at the monitor), namely with the help of a keyboard combination. The trick is to press the Alt + F4 key combination then Enter.

Why did you enter F4 immediately?
Because when you press the ALT + F4 key combination, a dialog box will appear in the form of a windows shutdown option. Now if the condition of the laptop at that time is in a dead screen condition (off) then we cannot see the display on the screen. If we combine ALT + F4 and Enter, the result is.

ALT + F4 will open the windows shutdown dialog box

ALT + F4 and Enter

and when pressing ENTER , we immediately select the shutdown menu >> OK .

Note: If at that time you were opening several programs such as browser, file explorer, paint, etc. So when you press the ALT + F4 key combination it will also close the running application. So when your laptop screen turns off, you may have to press the ALT + F4 key combination several times to close the running program, then arrive at the ALT + F4 combination of the shutdown function then ENTER. However, it all depends on the situation and conditions when your laptop is hanging. It could be that you only need to press the ALT + F4 and ENTER key combination only once. Then the laptop will automatically shutdown. If this first method doesn't work, continue to the second method. 2. Closing the Laptop Screen and Pressing the power button (But before that it must be set first)

For this second method, you need preparation in advance. The preparation in question is that there must be a setting done in advance when the laptop is in normal condition. Namely doing it by setting it in the Control Panel >> Hardware and Sound >> Power Options section then  selecting change what the power buttons do . So there we will find the following settings:

power option control panel
Power option

batterai and unpluged in
Setting power button, slip button dan close lid

Explanation: When i press the power button : The condition when you press the power button on the laptop When i press the sleep button : The state when you press the sleep button When i close the lid : The state when you close the laptop screen On battery: when the laptop is in only condition use the battery as a power source Plugged in:when your laptop is on the charger (on the charge) Well, in the picture and description above you can see the settings for the power button (power button), sleep button (sleep button) and close the lid (closes laptop). In these settings we need to change the W hen i press the power button to be:

On battery: Shutdown
Plugged in: Shutdown

Whereas in the When i close the lid part is also replaced with the same settings, namely:

On battery: Shutdown
Plugged in: Shutdown

Then the result is:

setting when i press power button
Change to shutdown

Why do we replace everything with shutdown?
Because we want that later when the laptop hangs, we can turn off the laptop other than by using the keyboard key combination above. Namely by pressing the power button or by closing the laptop screen. With this setting it will be very easy for us to turn off the laptop by closing the screen or by pressing the power button.

Actually, you can choose these settings according to your individual needs and desires. However, since we are currently discussing how to shut down a laptop that is hanging, this setting is one of the best settings you can choose.

Finally, if so, save your settings by pressing thesave changebuttonGo to step three if step two is unsuccessful.

3. Shutdown by Removing Power / Removing the Battery (If the first and second methods have not been successful)

remove the laptop battery
Remove the laptop battery

It might seem pushy to some. However, this method is one of the last solutions when your laptop is hanging. If with a keyboard key combination, pressing the button and closing the laptop screen has not worked. You can immediately try this method, namely by directly removing the power or pulling out the battery. Based on experience, this method is not too fatal, the effect is only like when we use a laptop and suddenly the power goes out immediately and the laptop turns off (off).

So, those are three easy and concise ways to shutdown a laptop that is hanging. We have tried the 2 methods above and the results are satisfying. After that, the laptop that hangs can be shut down and used again normally. Hopefully this discussion is useful. Questions and additions can be submitted in the comments column. If useful, please share,
